Dear Community,
This month has literally zipped by faster than we could bat an eye partly because it is the shortest month of the year but also because it has been jammed packed with all sorts of national and local tomfoolery and foolishness sandwiched between Black History Month celebrations. As Chief Content Officer I am tired in more ways than one but mainly tired of all of the “woke” work, energy, and time that I expend educating a culture drenched in white supremacy. Based on recent headlines and news articles our ancestors would most likely be rolling over in their graves if they saw how far we still have yet to go as a society, culture, and human race.
Despite this I still have managed to find the beauty and grace in learning more about Black American history and culture and as a lover of learning I couldn’t be more filled with positivity and hope. No matter how small, change is happening. My biggest take away for the month is to appreciate the small milestones and see the good in every single day. Social media and the world is filled with so many bad people, so many bad attitudes, so much toxic energy, and so many unrelenting trolls that it can be easy to get swept away in a tsunami of hatred. But we know from the iconic words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that hate is too great a burden to bear. So, instead of fighting hate with hate I am choosing to see the good in the world and appreciate the small milestones of change. When you take time to reflect on them they truly do add up to a whole lot of good. Even though this is harder to do when you are tired it is imperative to do it anyway.

Black History Digital Campaign
Every day throughout the month of February our blog and various social media pages and platforms devoted space to sharing the achievements of black men and women both past and present. We learned more about Ida B. Wells, Jamaica, Byron Allen, Spike Lee, George Crum, Millie Bailey and so many more. For us every month is Black History Month but we recognize and support the continuous need to take time and space to put a special spotlight on the accomplishments of Black and brown Americans from all ethnicities that have literally changed the course of history and yet have legacies that are not know by the masses. We will have a full month round up for you on tomorrow.

- We held our first full staff, board, and volunteer annual meeting this month // of course we were all so involved in doing the work that we forgot to take a photo.
- We brought on a new high school volunteer from School Without Walls // stay tuned for their introduction coming up soon.
- This month caps our annual Fit, Well, and Sustainable campaign and we celebrated with the launch of 540 at The Yards
