Today marks the final day of January 2020 this month and as we look to February I am excited to announce our annual celebration of Black History Month with our annual blog campaign called: 29 Days of Little Known Facts About (Black) American History
This campaign is an annual blog campaign curated by 540WMain that has a mission to promote and share little known facts about Black Americans throughout history every day throughout the month of February. The campaign highlights the life and work of past and present day Black Americans that are overlooked or underrepresented in our conversations about American history.
“The life and work of Black Americans has consistently and systematically been erased and white-washed in America and this campaign is just one small way to counteract this shameful and dangerous narrative”
As chief content creator/curator I have been honored to highlight the work of Black Americans that I never learned about growing up and share their life and work here on 540Blog. For this year in light of my mission to scale up the scope and breadth of our work; I share the curation of blogs with others in the community. This month 540Blog will feature the work of past and present day heroes and sheroes whose works have transformed our lives and the world. Black history is American history and the transformative works of black people in this country is a history that is not only in the past but “alive” and shaping the culture that we experience in real time. The life and work of Black Americans has consistently and systematically been erased and white-washed in America and this campaign in just one small way to counteract this shameful and dangerous narrative.
It is my hope that the curation of voices and living history that we share on the blog throughout the month highlight the fact that black history is in action in all of our lives every single day. Join us in sharing these stories on the website and on 540WMain’s social media channels using the hashtag #blackhistoryinaction
540WMain will celebrate its 4 year anniversary with a party and extravaganza on Saturday June 20, 2020. In just four years the organization has become a pillar in the Susan B. Anthony neighborhood and a convener and curator of important and vital community conversations, classes, and programs. Your financial support helps us scale up this work in 2020 and beyond with a year long fundraising goal of $40,000
