Top 10 Favorite Books I Read in 2019 by Calvin Eaton

I love reading! And in 2019 this love continued as I liked, tagged, saved, and added many articles, magazines, posts, essays, news stories, manuals, e-books, audiobooks and yes paper back books to my never ending reading list. Nonfiction was at the top of my pile but I was able to sneak in a few novels. I didn’t quite reach the quantity of my friend Emily Hessney Lynch‘s (writer and owner of Serve Me the Sky Digital) 100 book challenge but I continued to take in lots of new content and ideas from a diverse list of thought leaders and writers. One of my main goals in 2020 is to waste less time scrolling through social media and more time reading actual book pages. I’ve already started to devote my final hour before bed each night to reading. Another goal, write my first cookbook by 2022 and a book about community activism.

Do you have any goals around devoting more time to reading in 2020? Let me know in the comments.

Here’s my list (in no particular order) of all the books I read this year and a few of my favorites.
  1. The Path Made Clear: Discovering Your Life’s Direction and Purpose by Oprah Winfrey
  2. Becoming by Michelle Obama
  3. The Color of Law by Richard Rothstein
  4. Everything’s Trash, But It’s Okay by Phoebe Robinson
  5. So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo
  6. S is for Silence by Sue Grafton
  7. The Poisoned City: Flint’s Water and the American Urban Tragedy by Ana Clark
  8. Queenie by Candice Carty- Williams
  9. The 1619 Project by The New York Times
  10. How to Be An Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
  11. The Minimalist Vegan by Maša and Michael Ofei

  1. I want to finish “How to be an Anti Racist,” but had to return the 7 day loan back to the library before completion. Is there a copy I can borrow?
