A Wednesday Word from the Director | Summer T’ings

Dear Community,

As you read this I am engaged in a week-long residency at the Genesee Country Village in Mumford, NY. For the first time ever, I am teaching a brand new Plant Based Cooking & Baking Camp to six amazing young women 10-13. What makes the experience even more special is that 540 Interns are spending the week on campus with me acting as Camp Counselor volunteers. This is a brand new experience not only for myself but a welcome addition to our summer workforce development program. As always there are many moving parts to manage and I couldn’t be happier for the support of Linell Brooks, our first Summer Program Coodinator.

Returning to Wilson College

Next week is just as busy for me as this week. I am back on the road (airplane) this time returning to Wilson College as a Returning Fellow Mentor at the Byron Fellowship. Those of you that have been following for some time know that I participated in the Byron Fellowship last summer and it completely changed my perspective and outlook as a change agent. I am thrilled at the opportunity to return to Bryon to coach and mentor this summer’s cohort of Byron Fellows. Long overdue is my follow-up from last summer’s fellowship and I promise to get this to you by the end of the summer.

Keeping Up with Clean Up

Our efforts to keep our district clean and tidy continued last week thanks to the support of Urban Fellows from The Rochester Center for Community Leadership at the University of Rochester.  I spend a considerable amount of time scheduling service groups regularly throughout the entire year to help us keep the neighborhood clean. This is an ongoing effort. If you would like to organize a group of volunteers to schedule a mini clean sweep submit an application
