A Wednesday Word from the Director | Tis The Season for Thanks & Giving

Have you donated? 540, Inc’s 3rd Annual November Fundraising Campaign is going on now!

Dear Community,

47 day…1140 minutes left of 2018. That’s it! The Thanksgiving holiday is next week. Rochester has experienced it’s first real snow fall of the season. Winter weather warnings are here and I’m scrambling to compile the obligatory best of lists, figure out how to scratach off all the items on my never ending to do list, and figure out where the time has flown. Not only is this my first Wednesday Word in a long long time but if you’re a fan of my blog www.theglutenfreechefblog.com you’ll also notice my first original blog post over there in over five months! Yikes.

When you’re as busy as I am and live with chronic illness there is always a proverbial sense of being behind. Leading and managing 540, Inc. (and all its moving parts) as well as my health requires tons of time and even more effort and energy. Each of these are finite resources that become more and more precious with each passing day. The silver lining in all of this is that the year has seemingly slipped by mainly because of all the great, awesome and wonderful things that are happening in front of and behind the scenes. As you can imagine; my gratitude is through the roof as I reflect on all the blessings that 2018 brought to me. And no matter how busy I get, I try my hardest to take a few moments each day to reflect and give thanks to all the amazing friends, family, and supporters that make everything I do possible. It is my hope that in your chaos leading up to the end of the year; you take time to give thanks and appreciate the fruits of your labor as well as the individuals supporting you that make it all possible.

xoxo

Awesome News

Last Wednesday I came together with members of The Awesome Foundation Rochester to receive the “big” check from their 2nd Awesome mini grant. This $1000 will be used to complete the masonry brick work in our Courtyard Teaching and Nutrition Garden. We will get this work on the agenda as soon as spring breaks which should hopefully (fingers crossed) be sometime in May? Regardless, we are simply thrilled to have this grant and move forward on this longstanding project. Expect events, classes, and more in the courtyard next year.

540 at The Yards

Perhaps the biggest news we’ve shared all year came last week with the announcement of 540 at The Yards. 540, Inc.’s very first satellite location 540 at The Yards. Watch our video announcement below for the full story.

An Opening Success

The Featured Artist for November is Maureen Robbins and we had a ball at her Opening Reception on November 4th. Over 30 community supporters came out to support Maureen the self-proclaimed “queen of bling” and give to 540WMain.

A Successful Conference

On October 20th over 70 community members came out to support the 540WMan Fall Gentrification Conference. This now bi-annual education event featured three community panelists, networking, and education of Rochester development and how we can revitalize without displacement. It was an amazing experience.
