About The Rebel Flower Bomb
When did you begin your career as an artist?
Where do you get the inspiration for your work?
RFB: I am inspired by real life situations but most importantly, anything that I use my senses for.
What makes you want to be an artist?
RFB: It’s healing. I want to be an artist because it saves me and others lives.
For you how does your art relate to wellness?
RFB: Art relates directly to wellness. It’s a release. But just as it releases, it pours into you. It’s another way to breathe.
How do you stay healthy as a creative?
RFB: I would say, I don’t. I’m a junkie. I’m unorganized and not very well put together. But on a serious note, I stay healthy by remembering that my reservoir and overflow matters. That means, I must partake in self care. I would have to say, allowing myself to feel. Allowing myself to express myself no matter what.
What do you feel is the most challenging aspect of your career?
RFB: The most challenging, hmmm, of my career? Not taking things personal. It’s that not taking anything personal because I really feel everything.
When you aren’t writing music what are you doing?
RFB: I’m being a regular human because i feel like poets aren’t human. I’m eating Panera, watching netflix, kissing my girlfriend and indulging in ridiculous activities. Or just living life, ya know?
What is it that inspires you to keep going as an entrepreneur?
RFB: Life.
What are you working on now?
RFB: I am currently working on me. I want to be the best me. Without that, I can’t be the best poet that I can be. It’s a process. Once I feel secure within the findings of myself, I’ll get back in the swing of things.
What has been your best experience so far as an artist?
RFB: I did a poem at Voices of Experience which is an event The Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley puts on every year. It’s my testimonial poem, my favorite at that. After, these young women, they came to me with their programs for the event. They wanted my autograph. Me, of all people. That was humbling. Someone saw the great in me. In my work, in my words. That’s life for me.
What has been your biggest challenge as an artist? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
RFB: My biggest challenge as an artist is remembering that I am not for everyone. That my work isn’t great to everyone. So, I try to be open minded. I end up just staying true to myself which was hard at one point. Now, it’s just like, hate me or love me, I’m here to stay.
What advice do you have for others interested in pursuing a career in art/music?
RFB: Don’t. Don’t do it, unless you have thick skin and you’re ready to feel. If you don’t want to feel, don’t even look towards art, it’s literally all about putting yourself out there.
Is there anything else you’d like the readers to know?
RFB: I love cards. Cards are the best ever. I wish I could write cards because the ones in stores really suck.
