Dear Community,
Happy Wednesday! I can’t believe a whole week has passed since I last came to you. The summer is flying by and boy does it feel like summer. Sunshine, humidity, sweat dripping down your brow, ice cold water, fireflies… Don’t you love Rochester summer?
It goes just as quick as it arrives so I do my best not to complain about the worst parts of summer even when my body rebels against the heat and humidity. I try to take it all in stride one day at a time.
And that really sums up the last week. With a full schedule and never ending to do list taking each activity one day at time helps us get through the good and not so great days.
Workforce Development Interns
The Workforce Development Interns (WDI) completed their third week last week. It was a jam packed week of library research sessions, gardening, cooking lessons, and prepping for events. Every day is different in my world and the interns have picked up on this and taken it in stride. From their comments they seem to enjoy the variety of work that they get to perform.
They are a great group of hardworking students and I cannot wait to share more of their personal stories with you throughout the month of August. Check out the photo gallery from some of their work last week and be sure to see more on our Facebook page.
A litte Help Goes a Long Way
Every summer I get approached by church mission leaders to host student and teen volunteers looking to connect with Rochester and help mission based organizations like 540WMain with outdoor and hands on work. I make it my aim to say yes to every request. Not only is it a great way to highlight our beautiful district but its a great way to make new partnerships and collaborations.
Last week Webster and Henrietta Church of Christ came to 540WMain with a group of about 15 students ages 10-14. The students helped in the Courtyard Garden and did trash pick up in the district. They were eager and helpful workers. Every little bit helps and many hands make the work we do so much easier.
Community Shout Out
Speaking of help; I have to give a shout to Marissa Haddock a community friend that donated an AC unit to 540WMain. Thank you so much Marissa. We will certainly put the AC to good use.
Her Voice Carries 540WMain
Sarah Rutherford and her team finished the W. Main Street installment of Her Voice Carries. It was amazing to see the hard work that she and her team demonstrated to be able to complete a mural of this magnitude in only two weeks. And to be able to see the project from start to finish was the icing on the cake. Learn more about the campaign at HerVoiceCarries.blog
