A Wednesday Word from the Director | Dog Days of Summer

Dear Community,

The dog days of summer have finally arrived and just as we begin to settle into the heat; autumn will be upon us and so will cooler air. 540WMain is sweltering quit literally from the summer heat (we have no central air) as well as from a bevvy of activity. From courtyard renovations to indoor remodeling, things are moving and shaking in more ways than one.

The Workforce Development Interns (WDI) are into the second week of their summer internship. They are a great group of teens and have been soaking up all that happens in my world at 540WMain since they landed last Tuesday. Check out the photo gallery from some of their work last week and be sure to see more on our Facebook page.

Remodeling continues in our historic space and by the end of this week we will have new flooring in our hallway, fresh paint, and a very special place that I will announce next Monday. If you happen to be in the Susan B. District for any reason, be sure to stop in during our open hours and say hello.

Oh and before I forget many of you email and message us asking about product donations to 540WMain. Below is a list of items that we are in need of at the moment:

  • Paper Towel
  • Bottled Water
  • Gluten Free Snacks
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Window AC unit
  • White Hand Towels

As always if you are interested in making a monetary donation, the best way is via our gofundme campaign www.gofundme.com/540WMain . We wish we could plant a money tree but since we can’t your contributions are the lifeblood of our work

I think that sums up my words for this week. Be sure to attend our next special event this Sunday from 3:00-6:00 PM. It’s a Sip & Shop PopUp curated by Etched In Black.

Last but not least, download the August calendar here
