I am pleased to announce The 2017 Workforce Development, Entrepreneur & College Preparatory Internship Program
The summer 2017 cohort started orientation yesterday here at 540WMain Community Learning Academy. This summer marks the second year of our unique summer internship which is a collaboration between 540WMain Community Learning Academy & Rochester Works Summer Youth Employment Program.
This summer, five high school students will be participating in the program -a six-week career focused educational and entrepreneur development internship. The internship provides workforce development training through experiential learning activities, workshops, and real life job coaching and training.
In addition to participating in the many events and classes that happen at 540WMain, interns will collaborate as a team to co-develop, co-design, and co-lead our second neighborhood walking tour for 2017. Throughout the summer they will be learning and developing organizational management, accounting, business, culinary, communication and leadership skills all aimed to prepare them for college and beyond.
Hands on learning, coupled with college style workshops will give the interns a taste of college academia and rigor.Students will keep daily reflection journals and learn how to be metacognitive learners, thinkers, and leaders. By the close of the summer interns will develop a college or job ready resume, start or continue their college search and application process, as well as a personal workforce development and education binder to use in the field. The program is directed, designed, and lead by our founder Calvin Eaton.
I am thrilled to lead this internship for the second consecutive summer.
Together We Grow,
Calvin Eaton, Founder & Executive Director
