When did you start your business?
SP: I opened my business in 2014 but I’ve been teaching since 2000.
Where did you get the inspiration for your business brand?
SP: My inspiration behind my business name comes from my Aunt Pearl as just like our bodies are unique and special like a pearl so was my aunt. My business itself came as a blessing as I wanted to do more with my clients than the local gym settings could give. I wanted to give my clients a true Personal environment with the full gym experience.
What makes you want to teach/do your business?
SP: Being able to help someone reach a goal while changing their life situation for the better is why I love what I do. I don’t only help my clients transform their physical physique but internally as well. Training with a personal trainer that cares about you and your well-being is what I do. As this is lifestyle change that not only involves you but the community around you which you live in. You are changing your life completely.
For you, how does your business/brand relate to wellness?
SP: Wellness is what I do and live. Complete wellness for you mind body and soul. Taking my clients further physically than they thought they could achieve alone. I also teach free Aqua Zumba classes in the local community, making wellness available to everyone.
How do you stay healthy?
SP: I am a WNBF Figure Natural Bodybuilder, currently in preparation mode for my fall season. I have won the title Ms. Universe 2x and last year finished 5th in the Worlds Championship in LA. Weight training and staying healthy in and off season is a lifestyle.
What do you feel is the most challenging aspect of your career?
SP: Not having enough time to do all that do.
When you aren’t teaching classes what do you like to do?
SP: I love to Tango and travel all over the world
What is it that inspires you to keep going as entrepreneur?
SP: Know how many lives I have helped changed for the better and seeing my clients reach new heights, is truly what keeps me going.
What are you working on now?
SP: I am the Health and Wellness Director for ABOVE African American Festival so getting the finishing touches in for or 10th year Anniversary August 5&6. Me personally getting ready for my fall competitions and getting my clients ready to compete as well.
What’s has been your best experience thus far in your business?
SP: Hearing and seeing my brand in the fitness and bodybuilding community.
What has been your biggest challenge as a company? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
SP: My biggest challenge has been managing my time and how I have been able to overcome that is learner to say NO in a positive way.
What advice do you have for others interested in pursuing their own business?
SP:Understand the field of business you’re getting into and what makes your brand different. But networking is truly the key. It doesn’t really matter what your bring to the table but if you don’t know anyone at the table you will feel like your there alone.
Is there anything else you’d like the readers to know?
SP: You have LOVE whole-heartedly what you do from every angle. If you need help pay someone to help. Don’t treat your business like a hobby because that’s what it will look like. Stay professional, look professional and know your purpose of your business. My business motto is Individually Sculpted because that is what I do.
